Present and previous positions:

1991- present - research scientist at the Zoological Institute of RAS, St. Petersburg.

1984-1990 - research scientist at the All-Union Institute of Plant Protection, Leningrad [now St. Petersburg]-Pushkin.

1981-1984 - post-graduate school at the Zoological Institute AS USSR, Leningrad [now St. Petersburg].

1977-1981 - laboratory assistant at the All-Union Institute of Plant Protection, Leningrad [now St. Petersburg]-Pushkin.

1977 - graduated from the Department of Biology, Leningrad State University, Leninrgad [now St. Petersburg].

Research interests:

Systematics, zoogeography, and phylogeny of the ground-beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera: Carabidae), mainly the tribe Harpalini, of the world, with special interest in the Palaearctic and Oriental faunas. Taxonomic revision of the genus Harpalus of the world.

Languages:

Russian (native language).

English: read, write, and speak.

Scientific French and German: read (limited).

Field experience:

Since 1976: Participation in many expeditions in the followings regions: RUSSIA (Caucasus, Lower Volga, Maritime Terr., Khabarovsk Terr., Amur Prov., Transbaicalia, Hamar-Daban Mt. Range, Altai Mts, Tuva, Karelia), Uzbekistan (western Tien Shan), Kazakhstan (Dzhungar Alatau, Transili Alatau, western Tien Shan), Kirghizstan (northern and western Tien Shan, Issyk-Kul, Alai Mt. Range), Turkmenistan (Kopetdag), Georgia, Ukraine (Karpaty Mts), China (Yunnan), Turkey.

Grants and Scholarships:

1998-2000, 2001-2003, 2004-2006, 2007-2009: four long-term grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

2006 - visiting grant from the Robert O. Bass Visiting Scientist Fund for a month long research visit to the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, USA.

2002 and 2004 - two visiting grants from the National Museum of Natural History, Paris, France for two (totally 2.5 months long) research visits to the National Museum of Natural History.

2003 and 2007 - two visiting grants from the Chinese Academy of Sciences for two (totally 2.3 months long) research visits to the Institute of Zoology, Beijing, China.

1994 - visiting grant from the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm, Sweden for 2.5 months long research visit to the Swedish Museum of Natural History.

1992-1993 - scholarship from International Scientific Fund (Biodiversity).
