Sergey Ivanovich Medvedev is the most famous Russian coleopterist who was working with the family Scarabaeidae in the 20th century. He started his coleoptertological activity as a follower of A.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and had a wide scope of entomological projects. Later he concentraced his interests in systematics of Scarabaeidae and published 5 volumes in the series "Fauna of the USSR" and one volume of "Key to larvae of Scarabaeoidea of USSR".

S.I. Medvedev is well known also as one of greatest artist among the soviet entomologists and illustrated his own publications and many papers and books of other colleagues.
