Andrey Mukhin

Born 12 March 1974 in Kaliningrad, USSR (former Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany).

I am interested in pre-migratory spatial behaviour of nocturnal migrants, relationships between exploratory behaviour and creation of navigation target; mechanism of habitat selection of passerines after nocturnal pre- and migratory flights; dispersal movements.

Current projects:

  • Behavioural adaptations for dispersal in highly fragmented and contiguous habitats;
  • Nocturnal behaviour in annual circle of passerine migrants;

Work:

  • 2004 ― present research scientist at the Zoological Institute, RAS;
  • 2004―2007 ― Post-doc in Max-Planck Institute for Ornithology (Andechs, Germany);
  • 1999―2004 ― research fellow at the Zoological Institute, RAS;
  • 1997―2001: research assistant at the Biological Station Rybachy, Zoological Institute;

Education:

  • 2004: Awarded a Ph.D. on "Postfledging movements of young Reed Warblers (Acrocephalus scirpaceus)" from the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
  • 1996: Master of Science in Biology from Kaliningrad State University.
