Born 21.03.1949 in Leningrad, USSR. Graduated from Leningrad State University, Dept. Vertebrate Zoology with Diploma in Science.
Thesis: Orientation ability of migratory and non-migratory species of birds.

1983 - Candidate of Science ( = Ph.D.) at the Zoological Institute, Leningrad. Dissertation: Site fixation of territory of future breeding (site fidelity) in migratory passerines.

1993 - Doctor of Science at the Zoological Institute, St.Petersburg. Dissertation: Philopatry of migratory birds.

1973-91 - researcher, Biological Station Rybachy of the Zoological Institute
1992-93 - senior researcher, Biological Station Rybachy
1993 - now - chief researcher, Biological Station Rybachy

Research Interests:

Philopatry, dispersal, homing, orientation, navigation and migration, population dynamics, monitoring of numbers and timing of migration and breeding in birds, climatic changes and breeding/migration phenology of birds
