Fields of scientific interest:
- Migration strategies of short- and long-distance nocturnal migrants. Species of particular interest is the Robin (Erithacus rubecula).
- Migration stopover ecology (stopover duration, fat accumulation, stopover decision, time of nocturnal departure from stopover).
- Physiological adaptations for migration (difference between short and long distance migrants).
- Regulation of migratory behavior by different endogenous and exogenous variables (endogenous biological rhythms, hormones, actual
fat status, weather, food abundance, social interactions etc.)
Laboratory and field practice:
The Biological Station Rybachy of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences.
- 2006 ― Participant in the orientation cage experiment with Pied Flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca).
- 2004―2005 ― Organizer of telemetry experiment aiming to study spatial behavior and choice of habitat in Robins on migratory stopover sites.
- 2004 ― Cage experiments with locomotor activity of Robins from a northern and a southern population.
- 2004―2005 ― Participant in the long term project of trapping migrants in Rybachy type traps.
- 2002―2003 ― Participant in telemetry study of stopover behavior of Robins (Erithacus rubecula).
- 1997―2003 ― Application and development of the method of high mist nets for trapping birds during nocturnal migratory departure.
- 1999 ― Development of method of tape-luring for nocturnal migrants, mainly Acrocephalus spp.
- 1996―2003 ― Participant in the 10-year joint research project of the Biological Station Rybachy and Vogelwarte Radolfzell, Germany.
Grants awarded and project participation:
