В отличие от авторов ключа мы считаем Pselaphidae и Scydmaenidae самостоятельными семействами.

Key
to North American Staphylinidae Subfamilies The
rove beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) are the largest beetle family
with over 52,000 species worldwide. The family is divided into 32
subfamilies, 26 of which are found in the new world.
Newton
et al. (2001) is by far the best resource on staphylinids for North America, although much is
left to be done. Two continually updated and refined (perhaps even by
you, dear reader) online resources are Bugguide.net and wikipedia.org.
Often
the first step is the hardest. Assuming what you're trying to identify
actually is a rove beetle (Staphylinidae: BugGuide,
Wikipedia), the
next step is to figure out what subfamily it belongs to.
The
purpose of this key is to facilitate identification of adult North
American staphylinids to subfamily. The key is
largely based on Moore and Legner (1979),
Newton et al. (2001), and OТKeefe (2001). Staphylinidae:
