Carl Johan Schönherr

Schönherr was a
Swedish naturalist and industrialist and a pioneer for applying
nomenclatorial principles in entomology in his major work
Synonymia Insectorum (1806-1817) in which he described some
scarabs. He gave most of his new species for description to several
colleagues, Gyllenhal more than others. He mostly specialized in
weevils. Like Gyllenhal, he was one of the last Linnaean disciples.
His collection is scattered, but known types are all in Stockholm
museum.
