Abstract:

The taxonomy of South American Mimoscymnus species are revised. A key to species, illustrations, synonymies and descriptions are provided. Mimoscymnus macula is a new combination. Scymnus (Pullus) nitidus, S. (P.) vittatus, P. [Scymnus] gilberti and M. aquilerai are recognized as junior synonyms of S. (P.) macula. New species are M. aeneus sp. nov., M. anthracinus sp. nov., M. brevicappilus sp. nov., M. caucaensis sp. nov., M. decorus sp. nov., M. gonzalezi sp. nov., M. guascaensis sp. nov., M. howdenorum sp. nov., M. islanegrensis sp. nov., M. laticlavus sp. nov., M. preclarus sp. nov., M. pseudomacula sp. nov., M. purpureus sp. nov., M. ramosi sp. nov., M. rossi sp. nov., M. solus sp. nov., M. terminatus sp. nov. and M. variegatus sp. nov. Information on habitat and food preference is completely lacking both in the literature and on specimen labels. Aphids seem the most likely food source, a hypothesis based solely on information available for Pullus species.
