Prestigious insect physiologist QIN Junde, 92, passes away
  [2008-1-16]  
     Prof. QIN Junde (1916-2008), a pioneer of insect physiology in China and a senior researcher with the CAS Institute of Zoology, died on 14 January, 2008 in Beijing at the age of 92.

    Graduated from the Biology Department of Soochow University in 1940, Qin carried out studies on zoology and insect physiology in the Graduate School of University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands from 1947 to 1950, and received his Sc.D in 1950. He was also conferred Honorary Fellow by the University of Minnesota, U.S.

    After returning back to China in 1951, Prof. Qin established China's first laboratory of insect physiology and worked as its head for more than 40 years. He was engaged in the studies on the physiological relationships between insects and plants including the nutrition and food selection of the Calorado potato beetle, the Oriental migratory locust, the Oriental armyworm, the cotton bollworm etc.
