  • 1. Site-seeing formalities in Oku (Kilum) Mountain Forest Reserve area;


  • 2. Lodging and recreational facilities to customers;


  • 3. Provision of guides/porters to lead tourists/visitors within/without Oku;


  • 4. Conveyance of Tourists/visitors from any town in Cameroon to and from Oku.




GETTING TO OKU

  • 1. From Yaounde or Douala, you board a vehicle to Bamenda from where you can:


  • 2. Pass through Kumbo (110km) then to Oku (25km) or;


  • 3. Pass through Belo (60km) then a seasonal road to Oku (25km) by use of personal jeep only;


  • 4. At Elak Motor Park, you can locate King David’s Tourists Rest House and Eco-Tourism Information Centre from the Council workers at the Park Office.




TOURISTIC RESOURCES IN OKU

  • CULTURAL HERITAGE:


  • Oku migrated and settled in the 19th century from the Tikari tribe with its attendant dignities such as chieftaincy, worship of the gods, cultural norms and values, traditional dignities, the Oku Palace, Lake Oku and general hospitability of Oku people. An iuumerable range of cultural festivities abounds with all the colour and splendour of the Fondom;




TOURISTIC RESOURCES IN OKU

  • PHYSICAL FEATURES:


  • 1. Being so mountainous; Oku is host of numerous physical features;


  • 2. Mount Oku (Kilum) Forest Reserve. Mount Oku with a height of 3011m is host of a nice montane forest and a rich variety of fauna and flora;


  • 3. Lake Oku; It is a volcanic lake that Oku people hold in great reverence since they have a myth that relates its origin and development;


  • 4. Other valuable physical features include; rivers, waterfalls, caves, shrines, birds and all fauna and flora.




OTHER RESOURCES

  • Other resources of magnificent outlook include: arts and crafts, honey and production; cultural centres, craft centres, craft paper industry, diseases and traditional medicines, Rural Radio Station which is a tool for effective communication in Oku; through it, teaching and informative programs can be organised and the community can easily be informed of any necessary development that may be. A host of others are not mentioned herein
