FLEAS  (SIPHONAPTERA)

Main Characteristics of a Geographic Classifier

The AIS includes a classifier table of physical geography objects and regions of the world. It was created as a result of analysis of different geographic atlases, review maps of different countries of the world, aeronavigation and topographic maps. The table included several thousands of names of mountains, ridges, lakes, islands and rivers with their synonyms and other forms of spelling. It is important that all objects listed above are classified by physical geography country, region and subregion indicated in "Physical Geography Atlas of the World" (1964) and in "Physical Geography of the USSR" (1966). The size and precision of the table of physical geography objects and also its differentiation on the level of classification (they are systematized by 22 taxonomic categories) created the needed prerequisites for presenting data in greater detail in the description of local regions and for the interpretation of data on the distribution of fleas and possibly other groups of animals. It is also important that this table permits to gradually accumulate and use (in the process of work) the entire diversity of synonymic names and forms of spelling.
