Main research areas:
The studies on the mussel Mytilus edulis aggregations (druses) are performed together with Vyacheslav V. Khalaman (WSBS) with special emphasis on the aggregation behaviour and 3-D structure of the druses. The original experimental methods are applied successfully in the studies on the intraspecific and interspecific competition and behavioural peculiarities of the aquatic animals in the fouling communities in the White Sea (RFBR grants ¹03-04-49701-à and ¹06-04-48789).

The larval development of the bivalves is studied for the last years together with Lyudmila P. Flyachinskaya (WSBS). The original computer modeling method was developed, based on the microscopy slides of the animals, which allows creating 3-D models of the larval bivalve shells (Flyachinskaya, Lezin, 2006). New data on the larval development were obtained for several White Sea bivalve mollusk species. The revision of the bivalve mollusk fauna is performed, and several new species were already defined for the White Sea fauna. The illustrated atlas of the White Sea bivalve mollusk larva will come soon. These studies were supported by grants of St.Petersburg Scientific Center (2006) and RFBR (¹ 07-04-00854).

The filtration activity of the sessile species (mollusks, ascidians, sponges and bryozoans) of the White Sea is studied. The original methods of the filtration flow registering were developed together with Vyacheslav V. Khalaman (WSBS) and Natalia N. Shunatova (St.Petersburg State University).
