Биография

Борис Иванович Сиренко родился в г. Павловске Воронежской области в семье военнослужащего. Семья часто переезжала из одного города в другой. Десятый класс закончил в Ленинграде. В том же году поступил в Ленинградский Кораблестроительный институт. Как студент 1 курса с 1960 по 1961 год работал на Адмиралтейском заводе слесарем-судосборщиком. В 1962 году, почувствовав призвание к зоологии, ушел из Кораблестроительного института и поступил на 1 курс биолого-почвенного факультета Ленинградского государственного университета.

Через два месяца, в ноябре 1962 года, был призван в Советскую Армию, в 1965, после демобилизации из рядов Советской Армии, возобновил учебу в университете. В 1970 году окончил Ленинградский Государственный университет по специальности «зоология» и в том же году поступил в очную аспирантуру на кафедру ихтиологии и гидробиологии биолого-почвенного факультета Ленинградского Государственного Университета.

В 1973 году, в связи с поступлением на работу в Институт биологии моря в г. Владивостоке, был переведен в заочную аспирантуру при той же кафедре. В 1975 по семейным обстоятельствам уволился из Института биологии моря и устроился на работу в Зоологический институт АН СССР. В 1980 году защитил кандидатскую диссертацию, в 1998 году – докторскую.

Принимал участие более чем в 50 экспедициях в морях России, Антарктики, в Индийском и Тихом океанах. Член Ученого совета и Диссертационного совета ЗИН РАН, редколлегий журналов «Биология моря» и «Ruthenica». Ответственный редактор серии «Исследования фауны морей».
