We hope that you will enjoy our pages on the history, collections, publications, staff, and ongoing research in theriology.
Theriologists of the Zoological Institute traditionally conduct research associated with the problems of systematics and phylogeny of main mammalian orders, Lagomorpha, Rodentia, Lipotyphla, Chiroptera, Carnivora, Artiodactyla, and Perissodactyla. Our researches also are working on the biodiversity, zoogeography, and fossil history of mammals of Russia and adjacent territories. The laboratory researchers have published
monographs in the series "Fauna of Russia and adjacent countries" and "Identification Guides to the fauna of Russia and adjacent countries". Our
collection includes more than 100,000 specimens.
