Description: Preparated and stained with methylene blue ventral nerve cord of the 5th stage larva of the migratory locust.

Method: supravital methylene blue staining

Method Description: Staining protocol is described in: Plotnikova S.I. Structural organization of the central nervous system of insects. Leningrad: Nauka, 1979. 120 pp. (In Russian). The preparation was stained for 1 hour in warm (37°C) 1/8% methylene blue in 0.75% NaCl water solution.

Description: In the caudal part of the ganglion there are numerous branching dendrites of motoneurons that form paired motor nuclei. In the anterior part of the ganglion there are motoneuron fibers that form anterior motor crossing. The unpaired nerve of the vegetative nervous system enters the ganglion caudally, in the median part.
