Description: Frontal (transverse) celloidin section through a telencephalic hemisphere of the carrion crow Corvus corone L. impregnated with silver salts by the Golgi method. Dorsal region of the pallium (HD – hyperstriatum dorsocellulare). The section shows a group of densely branched, spiny neurons that form the basis of multicellular neuronal groups in the pallium of birds (association). They are viewed as an analogue of modules in the mammalian cerebral cortex. These neurons are classified as specialized Class II allodendritic cells.
