My main scholarly interests include avian philopatry, dispersal, population dynamics, phenology and impact of climate on birds. Furthermore, I am interested in orientation and navigation, and in bird migration and behaviour. I am also interested in innovative tracking technologies. Main results of my research are presented in the monographs:

Sokolov L.V. 1997. Philopatry of migratory birds. In: Physiology and General Biology Reviews. Harwood Academic Publishers: Amsterdam. 60 p. PDF

Sokolov L.V. 2010. Climate in life of plants and animals. Tessa: St. Petersburg. 343 p.

Work:

  • 1973 - current: junior researcher, researcher, senior researcher at the Biological Station Rybachy, Zoological Institute.
  • 1971-1973: research assistant, Biological Research Institute, Leningrad State University.

Education:

  • 1983: Awarded a Ph.D. on 'Imprinting of the future breeding territory in migratory passerines birds' from the Zoological Institute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Leningrad.
  • 1971: Master of Science in Biology from St. Petersburg State University.
