The Institute conducts basic, search, and applied research pointed to obtaining of new knowledge in zoology and other biological sciences with their subsequent use in public interests.

The Institute conducts the research in the following directions:

  • taxonomy, faunistics, biogeography, evolutionary morphology, and phylogeny of animals;
  • ecology and behavior of animals;
  • biological basis of parasitism;
  • scientific basis of biomethod, biotechnology;
  • regularities of biological cycling of substances in nature;
  • structure, functioning, and productivity of aquatic ecosystems;
  • propaganda of zoological knowledge and environment protection;
  • rational usage of animal world and genetic resourses.
